Montgomery County, Virginia, Plat and Survey for Land Owned by Samuel McCraw

Overview

A certified copy of an original plat and survey of 1131 acres of land in Montgomery County, Virginia. The copy and the original are dated 1787. The land was surveyed by James Hines for owner Samuel McCraw. The land was later sold to William Whitcroft, who in turn sold the land to Patrick Murray.

Overview Family history of a Monongalia and Upshur County family that settled in Granville and Sago respectively. Levin Moreau was Frenchman who settled in New Jersey as a refugee from Bonaparte. He later anglicized his name and moved to Granville after the War of 1812 where he married and had a family. His descendents moved to Upshur County where during the Civil War, a Lorenzo Moore enlisted in the 10th. WV late in the war serving in the Wilderness and at Petersburg where he was wounded.
