Includes portraits of individuals and groups, apparently of family members and community groups. Many images feature woodland settings, and some pictures include evidence of logging operations, horse teams, buildings, and livestock. Lands deeds assigned to William Simpson, William Johnson, and Benjamin Johnson in Lexington, Lafayette County, Missouri by U.S. Presidents Andrew Jackson, John Tyler, and Martin Van Buren. These items were found in the desk of E.W. McClung in a residence in Sinks Grove, West Virginia. One deed has an original signature of President Andrew Jackson.

Bill Evans, Journalist, Letter Regarding the Farmington Mine Disaster

Overview

Facsimile of a letter from Bill Evans to Roger Ruhl regarding the Farmington Mine Disaster. Evans was a reporter, as well as sports columnist and editor, for the Fairmont Times. Evans apologizes to Ruhl for not writing at Thanksgiving and explains that he had been busy covering the Farmington Mine disaster. The letter describes his experience reporting from the scene in detail, particularly focusing on the attitudes and behavior of other newsmen.

Scope and Contents Facsimile of a manuscript historical narrative regarding James Edward Hanger (1843-1919) by Clyde Cale, Jr. The narrative describes Hanger's injury and amputation, brief imprisonment as a Confederate prisoner-of-war, and his postwar life and inventions.
