A letter book that documents daily correspondence carried out when Davis Elkins served in the U. S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father, Stephen Benton Elkins. The letter book contains mostly constituent requests for information about various laws and regulations, or lobbying requests on pending legislation. Correspondence of Congressman and U.S. Senator, Frank Hereford. Papers deal with the machinations of the Camden-Davis ring, Hereford's election to the Senate, and West Virginia politics.
